The Standish Active Seniors is a group of older adults from Standish and surrounding communities who regularly come together September through June for friendly conversation, community, and social connection. Each meeting brings a new educational topic or entertainment planned by the members.The group relies on member volunteers to organize theme events, decorate for holidays, plan events, and recruit new members to join. The Standish Parks & Recreation Department supports this group by scheduling space, serving meals, and promoting activities.New members are always welcome! Join us! Dates: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month September - June (Only One Meeting in Nov, Dec and June )Time: 10:30 am, lunch served at 12:00 pmLocation: the Standish Municipal Center (Sebago Lake Room) Meals are $8. per personReservations to attend the events are required by Thursday prior to each meeting by calling 415-8092

9:15 AM - 10:30 AM    Tai Chi - Tai Chi Thursday begins 4.04.21
                  Tai Chi is a relaxing and gentle exercise program. It uses slow, multi-directional movements to tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve balance, and to enhance the immune system. Tai Chi also reduces stress and helps to quiet and focus the mind. Studies have shown that it is effective in reducing blood pressure. There are many articles you can research online regarding it's benefits. Tai Chi practice is the recommended exercise for people with MS, Parkinson's Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily practice gives an enhanced feeling of well-being.These classes are in the tradition of Chen Man Ching and Silk Reeling Chi Gong in the tradition of Grand Master Feng.Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Wednesday before the class is held.  Anyone wishing to register after the 8-week session begins will be charged for the entire class or a pro-rated fee of $8.00/class for the remainder of that session, whichever is lower.Please note:  As a general rule, if the weather is bad and school is cancelled for MSAD6 we will NOT have class. Also, if there is a 1 or 2 hour delay, there will be no class. Date: ThursdaysTime: 9:30 - 10:30 amCost: 8 week session $54 or drop in $8 per class Albert Delaney has studied Tai Chi with Grand Master William Chen, Chi Gong Master Kenneth Cohen, and Don Ethan Miller. Tens of thousands of people come together across racial, ethnic, religious, and geopolitical boundaries . . . for the sole purpose of advancing personal and global health & healing through Tai Chi & QiGong. Come to Standish Municipal Center to learn more about Tai Chi with instructor Al Delaney and be a part of World Tai Chi Day.
