                   Welcome to the Standish Recreation 2018/19                                Before/After School Program!We strive to offer children a program that is affordable, fun and safe. One of the key elements of this program is “play!" Through play, children increase their social competence and emotional maturity. Activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, group games, arts & crafts, music, dance and occasional field trips. Each day quiet time will also be offered for participants to complete daily homework.A parent handbook has been prepared for your convenience. It informs you of our policies and procedures as well as to provide valuable information to help you to navigate the many details involved with this program.  We ask that you keep this handbook in a handy place for easy reference, or please find a copy on our website for your convenience. Jack Elementary Schools.Where: George E. Jack Elementary School. Participants who do not attend George E. Jack during the day will be transported by the MSAD6 transportation department. Parents are responsible for making sure to set up transportation with the department. Drop off and pick up are at the side entrance of George E. Jack. Before School Program (BSP): Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., excluding all school vacations, holidays, or snow days at G.E. Jack School. The BSP will not be held on any unscheduled late arrival days (such as those due to weather). Children attending Edna Libby and Steep Falls Schools will be transported from G.E. Drama Kids is an acting program that will help develop important confidence-building skills that will help those enrolled personally and academically. Throughout this acting program, participants will practice improvisations, mini-scripts, speaking skills, character analysis, theater games, creative movement and an informal performance.  All classes include fun participatory activities lead by enthusiastic, supportive teachers. There will be new creative lessons each week with no two classes being the same, a developmental and an age-appropriate curriculum, and everyone will be able to have a voice!

2:50 PM - 5:00 PM    Animal Shelter Helpers - Shelter Helpers
Animal Shelter Helpers is for kids who want to travel with us after school to volunteer at the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook. During their time at the shelter, they will get a chance to learn how to interact with all different kinds of animals and perform volunteering tasks such as; cleaning, sorting donations, making food or toys for the animals, or helping with any other tasks as needed by the shelter.All participants must be picked up at George E. Jack School at 5:00pm.Caution for anyone with nut allergies: Peanuts and tree nuts are regularly used at the shelter.

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM    Line Dancing - Line Dancing
                                                                                                                                                     Line Dancing Classes Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate-it is a great form of exercise, not to mention a lot of fun! Classes will be held at Standish Town Hall. Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Monday before the session starts. Minimum class size required. Join us for some hockey after school. Pillo hockey is played similarly to floor hockey, but the equipment includes sticks with foam padded ends and a large 7" foam ball. Teams will be divided each week, we will focus on sportsmanship, exercise, and having fun.We will be transporting kids who are enrolled in the after school program after Pillo Hockey concludes to George E. Jack.If you are not enrolled in the after school program, pick up will be at 4:15pm at the back door of the Enda Libby Gym.

                  Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.Practice is held Thursdays, 9:30 am - 10:30 am.  Beginners are encouraged to sign up and welcomed into the class. Classes will be held at Standish Town Hall in the Sebago Lake Room. Fee for the 8 week class is $40.00. Drama Kids is an acting program that will help develop important confidence-building skills that will help those enrolled personally and academically. Throughout this acting program, participants will practice improvisations, mini-scripts, speaking skills, character analysis, theater games, creative movement and an informal performance.  All classes include fun participatory activities lead by enthusiastic, supportive teachers. There will be new creative lessons each week with no two classes being the same, a developmental and an age-appropriate curriculum, and everyone will be able to have a voice!

                                                                                                                                                     Line Dancing Classes Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate-it is a great form of exercise, not to mention a lot of fun! Classes will be held at Standish Town Hall. Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Monday before the session starts. Minimum class size required. Join us for some hockey after school. Pillo hockey is played similarly to floor hockey, but the equipment includes sticks with foam padded ends and a large 7" foam ball. Teams will be divided each week, we will focus on sportsmanship, exercise, and having fun.We will be transporting kids who are enrolled in the after school program after Pillo Hockey concludes to George E. Jack.If you are not enrolled in the after school program, pick up will be at 4:15pm at the back door of the Enda Libby Gym.

                  Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.Practice is held Thursdays, 9:30 am - 10:30 am.  Beginners are encouraged to sign up and welcomed into the class. Classes will be held at Standish Town Hall in the Sebago Lake Room. Fee for the 8 week class is $40.00. Drama Kids is an acting program that will help develop important confidence-building skills that will help those enrolled personally and academically. Throughout this acting program, participants will practice improvisations, mini-scripts, speaking skills, character analysis, theater games, creative movement and an informal performance.  All classes include fun participatory activities lead by enthusiastic, supportive teachers.                                                                                                                                                      Line Dancing Classes Dancers of all levels are encouraged to participate-it is a great form of exercise, not to mention a lot of fun! Classes will be held at Standish Town Hall. Registration prior to class is mandatory and will be accepted at Town Hall or on-line at www.standishrec.com until the Monday before the session starts. Minimum class size required. Spring 2019Robotics has never been this exciting! The applications of robotics is all around us and we invite girls and boys to discover first-hand the design, construction, and application of modern-day robotics. Through the integration of exciting modular robotics learning systems and various types of robots children will discover how robotic devices use sensors to learn about their environment and how people use robots to get work done. Explore the mechanical aspects of robots, circuitry, and programming. Discover circuits using squishy conductive dough and snap together circuit-board modules to perform exciting functions. Spend a class navigating programmable robots through obstacle courses. Children will have the opportunity to build their very own robot to take home with them. Mad Science has spent years developing robotics programs for elementary students; we can confidently say that we have robotics down to a science! Classes include: Robot Challenge, Gear it up, Robot Building (TableTop Robot), Robots In Action, Shocking Isn’t It?, Real Life Robots, Get Your Code On, & Sensory Overload.Transportation may not be provided from Edna Libby via the rec bus. This non-profit marine science education organization is located within Ordiorne Point State Park in Rye, New Hampshire.We will participate in an educational session to gain an understanding of why the Gulf of Maine is one of the most productive ecosystems in the world and of how it is constantly changing due to temperature, salinity, and human impacts. After our session we will have time to visit the aquarium on our own and observe some of the unique and facinating creatures that inhabit the Gulf of Maine. Next, a stop at the Kittery Outlet Mall for lunch (on your own).

                  Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. Drama Kids is an acting program that will help develop important confidence-building skills that will help those enrolled personally and academically. Throughout this acting program, participants will practice improvisations, mini-scripts, speaking skills, character analysis, theater games, creative movement and an informal performance.  All classes include fun participatory activities lead by enthusiastic, supportive teachers. There will be new creative lessons each week with no two classes being the same, a developmental and an age-appropriate curriculum, and everyone will be able to have a voice!

Join Standish Recreation during February and April school vacation weeks for lots of fun and games, both inside and out! Your child will stay busy with field trips, scheduled activities, and themed adventures! Field trips often include bowling, swimming, sledding and skating, and local parks (weather permitting). Whether interested in sports, crafts, or just chillin' with friends, your child will have lots of fun at Vacation Camp!Scheduled activities are between 9am-4pm daily. Supervised, unstructured play between 7-9am and 4-6pm. Please bring a lunch and healthy snacks, a water bottle and come dressed for winter outdoor play. Please feel free to bring your own sleds, skates and helmets.  We have plenty of activities to keep your child busy, and ask that you leave electronics and other toys at home! If your child has special needs, allergies, requires special accommodations, or may need medicine administered during program hours, please fill out a Child Concern Form or our Permission to Administer Medication Form.

Please feel free to bring your own sleds, skates and helmets.  We have plenty of activities to keep your child busy, and ask that you leave electronics and other toys at home!                   Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.Practice is held Thursdays, 9:30 am - 10:30 am.  Beginners are encouraged to sign up and welcomed into the class. One of the key elements of this program is “play!" Through play, children increase their social competence and emotional maturity. Activities will include indoor and outdoor sports, group games, arts & crafts, music, dance and occasional field trips. Each day quiet time will also be offered for participants to complete daily homework.A parent handbook has been prepared for your convenience. It informs you of our policies and procedures as well as to provide valuable information to help you to navigate the many details involved with this program.  We ask that you keep this handbook in a handy place for easy reference, or please find a copy on our website for your convenience. We are excited for another successful year with our Before/After School Program.  Thank you for being a part of it!          General InformationWho: Children in grades K-5 who attend Edna Libby, Steep Falls and George E. Jack Elementary Schools.Where: George E. Jack Elementary School. Participants who do not attend George E. Jack during the day will be transported by the MSAD6 transportation department. Parents are responsible for making sure to set up transportation with the department. Drop off and pick up are at the side entrance of George E. Jack. Before School Program (BSP): Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., excluding all school vacations, holidays, or snow days at G.E. Jack School. The BSP will not be held on any unscheduled late arrival days (such as those due to weather). Children attending Edna Libby and Steep Falls Schools will be transported from G.E. Jack will arrive at their schools by 8:50 a.m.**Please note the Bonny Eagle MSAD6 Transportation Policy at www.bonnyeagle.orgAfter School Program (ASP): Monday - Friday 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., excluding all school vacations, holidays, or snow days at G.E.
