Portland Water District - Trail Day

Celebrate forests, recreation and clean water.
The 1,700 acre Sebago Lake Land Reserve is managed to protect Sebago Lake, your source of drinking water.
Join the Portland Water District and partners (Standish Parks and Recreation, Sebago Trails Paddling Co., and the YMCA) at the fifth annual Trail Day, held on the Sebago Lake Land Reserve in Standish!

If you’d like to register for an event but tickets are sold out, please email sebagolake@pwd.org to be added to a waitlist.
Registration is now open! All registered participants will receive a stainless steel water bottle and carabiner!
The deadline for registration is Monday, 9/25 for all events. Registered participants will be emailed details the week of 9/25, including directions.

Learn to Kayak:
Time: 1:15 – 2:45
Age: 8 & up
Limit: 24
Learn recreational kayaking skills and tips in this clinic hosted by Sebago Trails Paddling Co. Brand new and novice kayakers will get on the water and learn entering/exiting techniques, basic paddling strokes, and safety tips. After your instruction, put your new skills to the test and paddle around the pond! Kayaks, paddles, and life jackets/PFDs provided.
Notes: 300 lb. weight limit maximum. When registering, please indicate child’s height if under 15 years of age to ensure appropriately sized equipment. A participating adult must accompany children ages 8-11 years.

Forest Flow and Yoga
Time: 1:45 – 2:45
Age: 8 and up
Limit: 20
Join a YMCA Group Exercise Instructor for an hour long full body yoga workout that incorporates body weight exercises while using the breath to stay mindful. This is an all-levels class with modifications offered. Bring your own mat. Blocks and straps provided.

Radical Ropes Course and Climbing Wall Adventures
Time: 1:30 – 3:00
Age: 5 and up
Limit: 20
Otter Pond Outdoor Adventure Camp has been a part of the YMCA of Southern Maine and based on the Sebago Lake Land Reserve in Standish since 1974. Come experience what camp has to offer! Challenge yourself on our ropes course elements and 50’ climbing wall all under the supervision of our experienced YMCA summer camp counselors. Equipment is provided.

Woods Walk and Talk
Time: 1:00 – 3:00
Age: Adult
Limit: 25
Join us for a guided nature walk to learn about how the Maine woods tell a story of land, water, plants, and people. We will walk at a leisurely pace, stopping to point out features of interest and answer any questions the group may have. Please bring your curiosity and a sturdy pair of walking shoes for our 2.4 mile walk. The route traverses varied terrain and will include some areas with short, steep inclines.

Family Trails Scavenger Hunt
Time: 1:00 – 3:30 (staggered start times between 1:00 and 2:30)*
Age: Families with children ages 4-12
Limit: 28 groups
Bring your family to explore the trails for a self-guided nature scavenger hunt designed by Standish Parks and Recreation. Each group of participants will receive a scavenger hunt guide, trail map, and nature discovery tools for use during the activity. A digital camera and/or smartphone is required for some of the scavenger hunt challenges. Choose between a ¾-mile or a 1.5-mile loop to fit the capabilities of your family. Trails cover uneven terrain and include some short, moderately steep sections.
* When registering, select one ticket for your group at a starting time of your choice. Participants will begin at staggered times between 1:00 and 2:30 to avoid congestion. The event is untimed but will end by 3:30.
